He danced down the hallway on the way to radiation.
He laughed from hospital beds.
He jumped rope with the nurses.
He celebrated birthdays, holidays, and ordinary moments inside places that could have easily felt consumed by fear.
We left California and moved to Houston, Texas so Truman could receive treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
As part of his treatment, Truman underwent a life-saving surgery that resulted in the loss of his right eye.
There were moments that felt impossibly heavy for our family, moments we knew would change us forever. But somewhere in the middle of all of it, something unexpected began happening too.
We watched our son continue to live with a kind of joy we could not always understand ourselves.
4-year old Truman
One moment we thought we were treating pink eye, and within days we were sitting in a children’s hospital hearing words no parent is ever prepared for.
As parents, you do not stop to process it.
You act.
Somehow, you just keep moving forward through the next moment, and then the next one after that.
Our lives changed overnight.
Truman was three years old when he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer behind his right eye.
That is TruLiving.
We started realizing that life is not only about surviving difficult moments.
It is also about how we choose to live through them.
That perspective became the heart of TruLiving.
While we were trying to hold ourselves together, he kept reminding us that light could still exist there too. That changed us.

Truman continues to live without limits, embodying everything TruLiving stands for. As a Youth Advisor on our leadership board, he is not just the reason this foundation exists, he is proof that finding the light in darkness is possible.
